TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three Singaporean citizens are suspected of being involved in a baby trafficking syndicate from Indonesia. The International Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) is collaborating with the Singapore Police Force (SPF) to pursue these three individuals.

"SPF is ready to assist in the search for the three Singaporean citizens who are suspected to be involved," said Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, the Secretary of the National Central Bureau (NCB) Interpol Polri, in his statement on Friday, September 19, 2025.

The West Java Regional Police initially handled the baby trafficking case, and Interpol Polri will facilitate coordination between them and the SPF.

Polri's International Relations Division has suggested investigators trace the data of the porter's Population Identification Number (NIK), who is suspected of transporting babies to Singapore, to ensure their identities and the travel route.

The West Java Regional Police previously named 22 suspects in the baby trafficking network. The Director of General Crime Investigation of the West Java Regional Police, Grand Commissioner Surawan, revealed that each baby was traded for approximately SG$20,000, or equivalent to Rp254 million. This value covers the childbirth expenses, the baby's necessities, and profits for the involved parties.

From the investigation, it was found that the perpetrators had collected 25 babies, 15 of which were transferred to Singapore under the adoption facade. The suspects are now charged under Article 2 Paragraph 1 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning Criminal Acts of Human Trafficking, with a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a fine of Rp600 million.
