TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hollywood actor Brad Pitt will return to acting in the sequel for the 2013 disaster action horror "World War Z."
Variety reported on Friday, September 18, that Pitt will produce the sequel alongside Dede Gradner and Jeremy Kleiner on behalf of Plan B, with Edward Berger serving as executive producer.
Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front, Conclave) has also signed on to direct the film, based on a script by Dennis Kelly, with details of the plot remaining under wraps.
At CinemaCon in April, Paramount announced that the sequel was finally in active development after several attempts to make another film.
The news of the sequel emerged during a press conference for Pitt's film, "Heart of the Beast," which will be released next week.
The original "World War Z," adapted from Max Brooks' best-selling 2006 novel, grossed over US$540 million at the global box office.
“World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War,” directed by Marc Forster, starred Pitt as Gerry Lane, a former United Nations employee, in a race against time to stop a zombie pandemic.
The big-budget adaptation was produced by Hollywood studio Paramount in partnership with Pitt’s Plan B production company.
