TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tottenham Hotspur extended their winless run in the 2026/27 Premier League after losing 2-3 to Aston Villa in matchday five at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
Villa's three goals were scored by Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson, and Emiliano Buendia. Tottenham had scored twice through Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke, but failed to even the field before the final blow of the whistle.
The victory marked Aston Villa's first in the Premier League this season. Unai Emery's team climbed to 15th place in the standings with four points from five matches.
In comparison, Tottenham's form has worsened. Spurs have only collected two points across five matches and are now in 18th place, in the relegation zone, according to the Premier League's official website.
The Gameplay
Aston Villa took the lead in first-half stoppage time, in the 45+4 minute.
Manzambi capitalized on Robertson's error when he failed to clear the ball proper. Kamara then delivered a pass across the penalty zone, which Manzambi tapped in to make it 1-0.
Tottenham had a goal scored through Mohammed Kudus in the 60th minute. However, the goal was disallowed as Robertson, who had provided the pass, was in an offside position.
Aston Villa then doubled their lead in the 67th minute. Nicolas Jackson received a long pass from goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, then combined with Manzambi to beat the Tottenham defense.
Jackson first rounded Micky van de Ven before unleashing a volley.
Villa further extended their lead in the 79th minute through a beautiful goal by Emiliano Buendia. The Argentine midfielder unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty area that flew into the top right corner of the Tottenham goal. The score was 0-3.
Spurs only managed to reduce the deficit in the 86th minute. Kudus penetrated from the left flank before sending the ball into the center, which Conor Gallagher finished with a tap-in.
Tottenham struck again in the 90+8 minute. Jan Paul van Hecke met a free kick with a header to make it 2-3.
However, that goal proved to be the final goal of the match. Aston Villa maintained their lead until the final whistle and took home three points from Tottenham's home.
The result against Aston Villa also extended Tottenham's winless streak in the English top flight this season.
