TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, on Monday, October 13, 2025, handed over the first seven Israeli captives to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Gaza as part of the ceasefire agreement, as reported by TRT World, quoting Israel's Channel 12, marking the beginning of the release of Israeli hostages by the group.
A Red Cross convoy is en route to pick up the first wave of Israeli captives to be released by Hamas, said the Israeli military. An Israeli military helicopter also landed in the southern Israeli city of Reim, preparing to pick up the Israeli hostages after they were handed over by the ICRC.
The Israeli military, in a post on X, then stated that it had received information from the ICRC that Hamas had handed over seven captives to the organization. The ICRC is now heading to the Israeli military and Shin Bet forces in the Gaza Strip, it added.
Earlier that day, the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, announced that they had decided to release 20 Israeli prisoners as part of the ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange in Gaza.
The group released the names of the prisoners, including Elkana Bohbot, Matan Angrest, Avinatan Or, Yosef-Haim Ohana, Alon Ohel, Evyatar Davud, Guy Gilboa-Dalal, Rom Braslavski, as well as the twin brothers Gali and Ziv Berman, Eitan Mor, Segev Kalfon, Maxim Herkin, Eitan Horn, Bar Kupershtein, Omri Miran, and the brothers David and Ariel Cunio.
According to Israeli media, the release of the prisoners will be done in two phases.
The second stage will take place at 10:00 a.m. local time from the Khan Younis area and the central Gaza refugee camps.
Palestinian Captives Set to be Released from Israeli Prisons
While Israel on Monday is preparing to welcome the remaining 20 living captives from the devastated Gaza in the breakthrough ceasefire deal sealed after two years of Tel Aviv's brutal onslaught in the Palestinian enclave, Palestine awaits the release of nearly 2,000 of its citizens unilaterally detained by Israel.
As reported by Al Jazeera, among them are 1,700 Palestinians from Gaza, with another 250 are prisoners serving life sentences or long-term sentences.
Of that number, 135 individuals will be deported to Gaza or exiled abroad, 100 are expected to be sent to the occupied West Bank, and 15 will be released in occupied East Jerusalem.
Crowds gather in Khan Younis in southern Gaza where hundreds of released Palestinian citizens are expected to arrive at the Nasser Medical Complex soon.
These developments come just hours before the peace summit on the Gaza ceasefire to be held in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, co-chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
More than 20 world leaders are expected to attend the summit, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, French President Emmanuel Macron, Jordan's King Abdullah II, Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
