TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is preparing 177 research topics to support the formulation of national policies.
BRIN Head Arif Satria said in a press release received on Saturday that the research projects are scheduled to be carried out in 2026.
The topics were compiled through a forum involving ministry secretaries-general to identify research needs in support of policy formulation.
"In 2026, we have prepared 177 policy research topics. These topics were identified through a forum involving all ministry secretaries-general, who conveyed their research needs. As a result, the policy research we conduct is based on the needs of the ministries," he said.
Arif noted that the research priorities proposed by ministries may not fully address more fundamental issues.
Therefore, BRIN is also inviting input from the House of Representatives' Commission X to ensure that its research is more relevant to the needs of the public.
In addition, BRIN is strengthening research in the sports sector by establishing a Sports Research Organization and enhancing collaboration with universities.
Arif expressed hope that the initiative would promote the science-based development of national sports.
"BRIN is currently establishing a Sports Research Organization, which will be strengthened through Research Collaboration Centers with universities. This will help ensure that the future development of sports in Indonesia is based on science," he said.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the House of Representatives' Commission X, Hetifah Sjaifudian, praised BRIN's commitment to strengthening research to support evidence-based public policymaking.
She expressed hope that BRIN would continue to reinforce its role as the country's primary reference for policies based on research, innovation, and data.
BRIN, says Hetifah, serves as a think tank not only for the House of Representatives but also for ministries and other government institutions.
"Our aspiration for BRIN is to be a think tank not only for the legislature but also for various ministries and other government institutions," Hetifah said.
