TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that several Chinese citizens were injured in the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Saturday morning.
"It is understood that a small number of Chinese nationals were injured in the earthquake," said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian at a press conference in Beijing on Monday.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, the government is taking care of tourists in the super-priority tourist destinations of Flores, Alor, Lembata, and Bima (Floratama) affected by the earthquake.
A total of 986 tourists who were stranded on Padar Island due to the temporary suspension of cruise services were repatriated after the Labuan Bajo Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP) issued a notice resuming cruise services. They have all arrived safely in Labuan Bajo.
"The Chinese consulate in Denpasar has activated an emergency response mechanism to provide protection and consular assistance to Chinese citizens affected and injured by the earthquake," added Lin Jian.
Lin Jian also stated that the Chinese government is continuing to monitor developments regarding the earthquake disaster.
"We expressed deep condolences over the deaths and sincere sympathies to the bereaved families and the injured. China is willing to provide assistance according to the needs of the Indonesian sides," Lin Jian added.
Previously, it was reported that two Chinese tourists staying at the Jayakarta Hotel in Labuan Bajo were injured in the earthquake. Both were taken to Siloam Hospital Labuan Bajo.
All hotel guests in Labuan Bajo have been evacuated to safe locations outside the building, including Natas Parapuar and the Komodo Regional Hospital grounds. Tourists who were evacuated from the Meurorah Hotel to Puncak Waringin have now returned to their accommodations.
Flight operations at Komodo Airport are operating with restrictions following a technical airworthiness inspection, while cruise services are gradually resuming.
According to preliminary data from the Labuan Bajo Flores Authority Implementation Agency (BPOLBF), tourism facilities affected by the earthquake include the Jayakarta Hotel in West Manggarai.
The Papita Mbay Hotel in the Nagekeo area reportedly suffered severe damage, while the Ayana, Ta'aktana Marriott, Crown, Jaga Bay, Luwansa, Sudamala, and Meurorah Hotels only sustained minor damage.
Power and internet services at most accommodations in the earthquake-hit area have returned to normal.
