TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's flagship carrier, Garuda Indonesia, officially opens a new route connecting Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta with Bali, with the first flight debuting on Friday, August 1, 2025. A 162-capacity Boeing 737-800NG aircraft will serve this route every day.

"This route serves as a strategic move to expand the domestic flight network, which aligns with the recovery of the national tourism sector," said Director of Commerce of Garuda Indonesia, Reza Aulia Hakim, in a written statement on Monday, August 4, 2025.

According to Reza, air mobility between Bali and Jakarta is seeing a relatively high demand. "Especially for business and premium tourists who require efficient access from the city center," he said.

Flights from Jakarta depart at 5:25 p.m. local time, with scheduled arrival at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar at 8:30 p.m. Bali time. Meanwhile, the flight from Bali departs at 8:40 p.m. local time and arrives in Jakarta at 9:35 p.m. Jakarta time.

Thus far, Garuda Indonesia has operated a total of 77 flight frequencies from Jakarta to Bali every week, both from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport and Soekarno-Hatta Airport. There are a total of 144 flights every week from and to Denpasar, Bali.

This additional route complements other domestic airways available from Halim Airport, namely to Surabaya and Medan. With the presence of two main flight hubs in Jakarta serving Bali, Reza said Garuda Indonesia hopes to strengthen its position as a connector between the national economic and international tourist centers.

As one of the main entry points for foreign arrivals, he said, Jakarta plays a key role in distributing the flow of tourist visits to various destinations in Indonesia, including Bali.

Garuda Indonesia hopes the new Halim Perdanakusuma-Bali route will further optimize the potential of quality tourism, both in improving tourists' length of stay and their spending while traveling in Indonesia.

He added that Garuda Indonesia will continue to bolster Bali's position not only as the primary tourist destination in Indonesia but also as the gateway for foreign and domestic arrivals. "This corresponds with Bali's strategic role as the national tourism showcase in the eyes of the world," said Reza.
