TEMPO.COJakarta - The Palestinian militant group Hamas condemned Israeli settlers who burned down a mosque in the occupied West Bank, calling the arson a "fascist and organized crime."

Hamas issued the statement, as reported by IRNA and quoted by Antara, regarding Israeli settlers' burning of the Abu Bakr al-Siddiq Mosque, located between the cities of Sarra and Tal near Nablus in the northern West Bank.

According to Hamas, the settlers also spray-painted racist slogans on the mosque's walls.

"The action carried out on Monday by the Zionist settlers is a fascist and organized crime, as well as a blatant attack on places of worship and holy sites for Muslims. This action constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms that guarantee the protection of places of worship and holy sites," Hamas said on Wednesday.

Hamas called on the Palestinian people to take action to protect mosques and other religious sites in the face of attacks by Zionist settlers and to resist these aggressive actions.

The group also urged the United Nations (UN) and all human rights organizations to condemn "this evil fascist behavior" and prosecute the perpetrators.

Furthermore, Hamas also demanded that Israeli officials be held accountable for supporting such brutal crimes against the Palestinian people and Muslim and Christian holy sites.
