TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The volunteer post at the Yogyakarta Nurul Ashri Mosque in Aceh Tamiang reportedly received a threat in the form of a headless dog carcass. A video of the discovery, which was found wrapped in plastic, was uploaded to the mosque's Instagram account @masjidnurulashri on Monday, February 23, 2026.
"The incident of finding the dog carcass occurred at our post, the Nurul Ashri post at Sungai Liput," said Ikhsan Lani, a Papua MMA athlete and volunteer at the mosque, to Tempo on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Initially, Ikhsan and his colleague Satrio Widiantoro went to dispose of trash from the post at a dumpsite in the Seumadam area around 09:00 a.m. Upon returning from the dumpsite, they found foul-smelling waste wrapped in a red plastic bag.
They opened it and saw part of the carcass. "Because of the strong smell, my colleague and I double-wrapped it in two blue bags and brought it into the post," Ikhsan said.
Once inside the post, they felt the situation was suspicious. "Why was the animal carcass dumped in front of our post, the volunteer post? Why wasn't it buried or disposed of in the trash? That's why we opened it again, as seen in the video," he said.
Ikhsan mentioned that someone had simply left the package containing the headless dog carcass in the red plastic bag on the ground, directly in front of the volunteer post. He emphasized that there was no trash bin at that location. "We've never experienced a terror like this before; this is the first time for us," Ikhsan said.
Based on the Instagram video, the headless dog carcass was already decomposed. The narration in the video also noted the presence of maggots on the carcass. "We came to help, not to seek enemies. But today we were terrorized," the Instagram account @masjidnurulashri wrote in the post.
Volunteers from Nurul Ashri Mosque affirmed they did not come with ulterior motives, but only to ensure disaster-affected residents in Aceh do not feel alone. The volunteers stated they do not demean or corner anyone; they are only carrying out their moral responsibility to the disaster-affected community.
