TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government officially signed a reciprocal trade agreement with the United States on Friday, February 20, 2026. The signing ceremony took place in Washington, D.C.
Streamed live on the official YouTube account of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the document was signed by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and the United States Trade Representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer. The document signed by both parties is the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade.
President Prabowo Subianto and President Donald Trump were not seen during the live broadcast of the signing. However, following the ceremony, Airlangga Hartarto confirmed in a press conference that Prabowo and Trump had signed the Implementation of the Agreement toward New Golden Age US-Indonesia Alliance document.
Prabowo departed for the U.S. on February 16, 2026. He was scheduled to attend the Board of Peace summit on February 19. "Around that date, the signing of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) was planned to take place," said the Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Haryo Limanseto, in a recent official statement.
The Head of State also attended the Indonesia-US business forum in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, U.S. time. He delivered a speech at a roundtable event, gave a keynote address at the Gala Iftar Dinner, and witnessed the signing of 11 cooperation agreements between U.S. companies and Indonesia.
Prior to this, several key points from the negotiation document had been agreed upon and discussed in the legal drafting process. Within the framework of the agreement, Indonesia has committed to exempting tariff duties for most products originating from the United States.
Meanwhile, the U.S. will reduce reciprocal tariffs on Indonesian products from 32 percent to 19 percent. America has also committed to granting tariff exemptions for several of Indonesia's leading export commodities, including palm oil, coffee, and cocoa. Tariff exemptions will apply to Indonesian export products that cannot be produced by the U.S.
The agreement on the substance of ATR was reached after an official meeting between Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and United States Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer on Monday, December 22, 2025, in Washington, D.C.
