TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono reviewed the progress of the breakwater construction at Kuta Beach, Bali, on Monday, October 13, 2025. The breakwater was built along the coastline between Kuta and Seminyak, stretching 5.3 kilometers, said the minister.

A prominent tourist destination, Agus said the breakwater construction at Kuta Beach is aimed at preventing coastal abrasion.

“This construction not only protects the beach from abrasion, but also maintains the safety of coastal communities," said the coordinating minister, familiarly known as AHY, quoted from a written statement on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

The project, said AHY, consists of five breakwater units, each approximately 110 meters long, which cost about Rp260 billion. “The construction is supported by a JICA loan scheme and carried out by PT Adhi Karya,” said the Chairman of the Democratic Party.

The construction is 18 percent finished, AHY went on, setting the target for completion by 2026 year-end.

He added that this project is part of the government's commitment to preserving the environment while supporting the sustainability of the tourism sector in Bali. According to AHY, abrasion on Kuta beach has reached 15-20 meters since the 1980s.

In addition to protecting the coast, this project is expected to boost tourism appeal, bolster visitor comfort, and foster local economic growth. The government is optimistic that preserving the Kuta coastline will sustain Bali's tourism.

“Building infrastructure is not only about economic growth, but also about preserving the environment. Bali is Indonesia's mainstay of tourism, so its sustainability must be maintained,” he said.
