TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia has confirmed that crude oil supply is secure to meet national needs, including supplies originating from Russia. "I stated that the availability of our crude oil—including supplies from Russia—is secure, insha Allah," said Bahlil at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, as quoted by ANTARA.

However, Bahlil said he could not yet provide further details regarding the realization of Russian crude oil imports for the second phase, including the volume and timing.

He said that technical information about Russia's crude oil supplies would be provided at the appropriate time. "I will explain other technical details regarding Russia at the appropriate time," he added.

The purchase of crude oil from Russia is part of a government-to-government (G-to-G) cooperation arrangement that subsequently extends to the government-to-business (G-to-B) level.

The government considers meeting national energy needs when determining sources of crude oil amidst global developments. The need for oil supplies from abroad arises because domestic production remains below target.

Data from ESDM records national oil production on September 8, 2026, at 571,731 barrels per day, whereas the 2026 target is 610,000 barrels per day.
