TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesian Team Chef de Mission (CdM) Todotua Pasaribu had the opportunity to carry the torch during the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games torch relay at Hisaya-Odori Park in Nagoya, Japan, on Thursday.

Todotua represented Indonesia at an event bringing together the CdM from various participating Asian Games nations. He ran 100 meters before passing the torch to the next runner.

"So, today the Asian Games organizing committee is holding the Torch Relay, and Indonesia has been selected to participate in the event. For us, this embodies the 'Imagine One Asia' concept, where Chefs de Mission from various countries come together around a single symbol: the torch flame," said Todotua in a statement from Nagoya, as quoted by ANTARA.

He said the torch flame symbolizes unity among Asian nations and signifies the approaching 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Todotua said Indonesia welcomes the opportunity provided by the organizers to participate in the torch relay series as one of the countries. "Naturally, we are delighted to be part of this event. Over the past few days, we have seen preparations steadily improve. The Asian Games organizing committee continues to address various issues that were previously matters of concern, including complaints and obstacles that have arisen," said Todotua.

He sees the event as an opportunity to foster unity ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.

Todotua hopes that Indonesia's participation in the torch relay will boost the morale of Team Indonesia's athletes and officials as they prepare to compete. "Looking ahead, the hope is that our team of athletes and officials can perform at their absolute best in the Asian Games competitions," said Todotua.

The torch relay is one of the events leading up to the opening of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, which are scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4, 2026.

For the Indonesian team, participation is part of the journey leading up to the start of the "Red and White" athletes' campaign at Asia's largest multi-sport event.
