TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono said the country continues to explore export opportunities for poultry products to China and the Middle East.
The initiative aims to expand market access, absorb domestic production surpluses, and improve the welfare of local poultry farmers.
"The Ministry of Agriculture is actively exploring export opportunities for poultry products to various countries, including China and the Middle East, amid rising global food demand in the international market," Sudaryono said in a statement released here on Saturday.
The deputy minister noted that Indonesia's poultry sector is currently experiencing an oversupply.
However, he described the abundant supply of chicken and eggs as a positive indicator of the country's strong production capacity.
He said the government's main challenge is to improve distribution and maintain balance in the domestic market.
"This is actually a good problem to have. The products are readily available. It is just a matter of how we manage supply, demand, and distribution to ensure stocks are distributed evenly across the country," he said.
Sudaryono stated that the ministry is continuing to expand access to export markets as a long-term solution to maintain the supply-and-demand balance, while simultaneously strengthening the global competitiveness of Indonesia's poultry industry.
Securing export markets, he added, depends not only on business considerations but also on strong diplomatic relations.
Therefore, the government continues to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation to open up more international markets for Indonesian agricultural products.
Furthermore, the ministry is coordinating closely with the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to ensure that the government's Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program maximizes the absorption of domestic food commodities, particularly chicken and eggs, whenever farm-gate prices decline.
Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilization at the National Food Agency (Bapanas) I Gusti Ketut Astawa said that the average farm-gate price of broiler chickens has increased by 4.11 percent over the past week.
Based on the agency’s data as of July 14, 2026, the national average price for live-weight broiler chickens stood at Rp21,736 per kilogram (kg), up from Rp20,878 per kg the previous week.
