TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian government plans to allocate a portion of profits generated by the country's sovereign investment agency Danantara from state-owned enterprise (SOE) dividends back into the State Budget.

The strategic shift, according to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, was initiated by President Prabowo Subianto, to build a government fiscal reserve and accelerate state debt reduction.

"The President's idea is to allocate part of Danantara's profits to government reserves," Purbaya told reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday.

"We are increasing revenue efficiency and want to make our budget more sustainable going forward. We are utilizing all means, including revenue from Danantara,” he added.

Under the 2025 amendments to the SOE Law, state enterprise dividends - previously recorded directly as non-tax state revenue - were redirected to Danantara. The proposed mechanism will re-establish a pathway for a portion of these earnings to enter government accounts.

Purbaya noted that the policy will be implemented in phases starting this year, following technical discussions with Danantara.

In addition to building fiscal reserves, the reallocated funds are intended to assist in managing state debt.

Data from the Finance Ministry’s Directorate General of Financing and Risk Management showed government debt at Rp10,293.69 trillion (approximately US$655.6 billion) as of June 30, 2026, or 41.26 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

The debt structure comprises Rp8,966.79 trillion (US$571.1 billion) in government securities and Rp1,326.90 trillion (US$84.5 billion) in loans.

Despite the debt figures, Purbaya assured that the national fiscal position remains within safe legal limits.
