TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Collective Management Institution (LMKN) announced that it will take over the collection of music and song royalties from digital platforms, a role previously held by Wahana Musik Indonesia (WAMI). "This will now be done for and on behalf of LMKN," stated Andi Mulhanan Tombolotutu, the Chair of LMKN for Creator Affairs, in a written statement on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Andi confirmed that LMKN is in the process of migrating data and finances to ensure a seamless and transparent transition. At the core of this initiative is a new one-gate policy, which aims to make the royalty collection process more efficient and transparent for both analog and digital music usage.
This new system simplifies the process for commercial users, who will now only need to secure music and song usage permits through LMKN. "The one-gate system will facilitate users, while ensuring the economic rights of creators and related rights are protected," he said.
Meanwhile, Marcell Kirana H. Siahaan, the Chair of LMKN for Related Rights Affairs, stated that LMKN and all Collective Management Institutions (CMIs) have agreed to implement significant improvements. He mentioned that CMIs will hand over member data and copyrighted works to LMKN to create an integrated database.
Marcell also emphasized the importance of submitting royalty distribution proposals based on valid data. "This is important to ensure fair and targeted royalty distribution," he said.
LMKN has warned that delays from CMIs in submitting this crucial data could hinder the distribution of royalties to their members, underscoring the need for timely cooperation to ensure musicians and creators receive their rightful payments.
