TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National security is steady ahead of the 81st anniversary of the Indonesian Independence Day, according to Muhammad Qodari, the head of the Government Communications Agency (Bakom).

In Jakarta on Monday, Qodari urged citizens to remain calm and wise in responding to various circulating information, especially through social media.

"It is important for all of us to always check the source, time, and context of information before drawing conclusions or spreading it," Qodari said.

According to him, the government, along with security forces, continues to take anticipatory measures to ensure that all activities commemorating the 81st anniversary of Indonesian Independence are safe and orderly.

Qodari explained that various security measures in public spaces are part of mitigation and risk management efforts to protect the public, not necessarily indicating an increase in security threats.

"A healthy digital space is a shared responsibility. The government will continue to disseminate information openly, swiftly, and based on facts," he said.

He hopes citizens will continue to carry out their daily activities normally by following information sourced from official government channels.

Qodari also emphasized that the government respects the right of every citizen to express their opinions, as guaranteed by the constitution.

At the same time, all parties are expected to exercise these rights peacefully, orderly, and in accordance with the law.

Furthermore, Qodari urged the public to celebrate the 81st Indonesian Independence Day with a spirit of unity, mutual cooperation, and togetherness.

"Let's use the momentum of the 81st Indonesian Independence Day as an opportunity to strengthen our love for the homeland and our shared optimism in building an increasingly advanced Indonesia," he said.

Qodari invited the public to celebrate independence in an orderly manner and maintain unity as part of efforts to build a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia.
