Indonesian Ulema Council Remembers Pope Francis: A Peace-Loving Figure

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The international community is currently mourning the passing of the leader of the worldwide Catholic Church, Pope Francis. The 88-year-old man breathed his last on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Vatican. His departure has left deep sorrow among people of various faiths, especially considering his significant contribution to advocating for global peace and interfaith dialogue.

In Indonesia, Pope Francis is also remembered as a friend of the Muslim community. He often engaged in dialogue with prominent Islamic figures.

Anwar Abbas, the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), also expressed his condolences.

"We have lost a spiritual leader who highly upheld human values. His commitment to bringing Catholics and Muslims closer together should serve as an example for future generations," he said.

Pope Francis, known for his humility and visionary nature, actively bridged relationships with global figures during his leadership, including leaders of other religions.
