TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government, in collaboration with PT Morego Green Indonesia, officially inaugurated the plastic waste collection and recycling center in Ciracas on Friday, December 19, 2025. This facility is expected to strengthen the community-based waste management ecosystem and is a concrete step in supporting the 1 Neighborhood 1 Waste Bank Program.

"This is an integral part of the circular economy chain, as well as a means to build public awareness on the importance of waste separation," said Head of Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, in a written statement shared after the launch.

The waste facility also serves as an example of creative financing, pointing out the public-private collaboration to provide modern and sustainable public service that is not hinged on regional state budge.

"This collaborative scheme is important to accelerate the transformation of Jakarta's waste management system, and an opportunity for business actors to participate in environmental development," said Asep.

PT Morego Green Indonesia Commissioner, Astrid Fauzia Zahra, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting the 1 Neighborhood 1 Waste Bank Program and strengthening the circular economy. She mentioned that the Collection Center Ciracas was designed as a pilot project serving five districts in East Jakarta, namely Cipayung, Ciracas, Kramat Jati, Makasar, and Pasar Rebo.

"It has a processing capacity of 8-10 tons of plastic waste per day, partnering up with waste banks," said Astrid, adding that there are plans to expand the project throughout Jakarta.

Astrid also stated that the Collection Center Ciracas was built with an investment value of around Rp3.5 billion and has provided employment opportunities for the local community. According to her, the facility is also integrated with a pickup and plastic procurement system at competitive prices, thus providing economic value for the residents.

During the processing, the plastic waste goes through two sorting stages. The first stage involves initial sorting to separate mixed plastic types, followed by advanced sorting based on color and raw material specifications for recycling industries.

"Plastic bottles are then processed with label removal machines to ensure cleaner materials, before being compressed for efficient distribution to processing factories," added Astrid.

East Jakarta Mayor, Munjirin, believes that the Collection Center Ciracas not only helps address waste issues, but also promotes circular economic and creates job opportunities for local residents.

"The East Jakarta City Government will continue to intensify education and dissemination of information so that the community becomes more aware of the importance of waste separation starting from their homes," said Munjirin.
