TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo (2014–2024) has confirmed his appointment as a Global Advisor for Bloomberg New Economy, a global platform that facilitates dialogue on economic transformation, particularly in emerging markets.

Jokowi, who is also the father of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, revealed that the offer came in early January 2025.

“Yes, I received the offer at the beginning of January. By the end of the month, I accepted and agreed,” he said at his residence in Sumber, Banjarsari District, Solo, Central Java, on Friday, September 26, 2025.

He added that in mid-March, he received a congratulatory message directly from Michael Bloomberg, welcoming him to the Bloomberg New Economy Global Advisory Board.

“This forum will allow us to discuss future economic challenges. We may explore new concepts and ideas that can help shape the global economy going forward,” Jokowi explained. He stressed the growing importance of economic intelligence and the ability to make rapid, data-driven decisions.

“AI and 5G will be crucial for the economy of the future. Real-time access to accurate data is essential, as swift and precise decisions are needed by every country,” he added.

As part of his new role, Jokowi said he expects to attend international forums, including in Australia if invited. He also noted that lessons learned from the Bloomberg New Economy’s global initiatives could bring positive insights for Indonesia.

According to the Bloomberg New Economy website, a new Global Advisory Board was established in April 2025 to address the world’s complex economic challenges.

“This advisory group brings together leading figures from business, government, and multilateral organizations, whose insights will be critical in guiding our efforts,” the platform stated.

Alongside Jokowi, the board includes Bloomberg LP founder Michael R. Bloomberg and former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi (2021–2022), among other prominent figures.
