TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's top men's singles player, Jonatan Christie, was crowned the champion of the 2025 Korea Open after defeating Denmark's top seed, Anders Antonsen, in a three-game thriller. Jojo, as he is known, secured the victory with scores of 21-10, 15-21, 21-17 on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
Jonatan, the fourth seed in the BWF Super 500 tournament, dominated the first game. He took an 11-7 lead at the interval and widened the gap with five consecutive points, cruising to a quick 21-10 win.
The momentum shifted in the second game. Although Jonatan opened strongly with a 7-3 lead, Antonsen quickly found his footing, equalizing the score at 8-8. The Dane then took charge, leading 12-8 and ultimately closing the game 21-15 to force a decisive third match.
In the final, rubber game, Jonatan again led at the interval, 11-9. Antonsen battled back to tie it at 11-11 as play resumed, but the Indonesian star swiftly regained control. He pulled ahead to 14-11 and maintained the pressure, establishing a commanding 19-14 lead before securing the championship at 21-17 after a match lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes.
This victory marks Jonatan's seventh win over Anders Antonsen in their 12 encounters, simultaneously ending his two-match losing streak against the Danish player.
The 2025 Korea Open title is Jonatan Christie's first championship win this year, and notably, his first title since his transition from the national training center to pursue a professional career. It is also his first major win since he was crowned the All England champion in 2024. Earlier this year, he narrowly missed securing a title after reaching the final of the Indonesia Masters 2025 in January, where he was defeated by Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
