TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A landslide occurred at the Kedaluh Hill or Kingkong Hill Viewpoint on Mount Bromo in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (BB TNBTS) area, East Java, Indonesia, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. Seven motorcycles were buried by the landslide, but there were no fatalities.
Endrip Wahyutama, spokesperson for the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, said that seven motorcycles were buried in the incident, but there were no fatalities. "The buried motorcycles belonged to tourism operators," he said. Five motorcycles were successfully evacuated from the landslide, while two others remain buried under the ground.
The estimated landslide area is 15 meters wide and 10 meters deep. BB TNBTS officers from the Mount Penanjakan Resort, along with tourism operators and local residents, are assisting with the landslide.
The East Java Provincial Public Works Department has deployed an excavator. A large tree blocks the area. However, the landslide did not block access to the Mount Bromo tourist area. The landslide occurred on part of the road, so visitors from Penanjakan could still pass down to the Sea of Sand alternately.
Kingkong Hill is a popular spot for watching the sunrise, with views of Mount Bromo, Mount Batok, and Mount Semeru as the backdrop. This spot is a great alternative if Pananjakan 1 and 2 are crowded. While Kingkong Hill is not as expansive and has fewer facilities than Pananjakan, it is no less appealing, offering a unique view of the sunrise and Mount Bromo.
