TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae Myung, expressed condolences for the deaths of three soldiers of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) due to an Israeli attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). President Lee conveyed this directly to President Prabowo Subianto during a bilateral meeting at the Blue House, the presidential palace of the Republic of Korea, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
"I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Indonesian military personnel participating in peacekeeping operations in Lebanon who have passed away due to the explosion," said Lee on Wednesday, as quoted by the Presidential Secretariat.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah is escalating. Three TNI soldiers were killed in two separate incidents in Southern Lebanon. These two events occurred within 24 hours.
On Sunday, March 29, 2025, Chief Private Farizal Romadhon was killed in an artillery explosion of unknown origin. A day later, Infantry Captain Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan were killed when the vehicle they were escorting exploded in the eastern sector of Southern Lebanon.
This series of events occurred shortly after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced an escalation of ground and air attacks on Hezbollah. The escalation had an impact on the UNIFIL operational area along the Lebanon-Israel border, which has long been a conflict buffer zone.
Meanwhile, President Prabowo conveyed his condolences for the deaths of the three TNI soldiers through the Instagram social media platform.
In a post on the @prabowo account, the Chairman of the Gerindra Party paid tribute to their dedication and sacrifice in carrying out their duties for the country. "Innalillahi waina ilaihi rajiun, condolences for the death of Captain Inf. Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Private Farizal Rhomadon while carrying out peace missions in the Middle East," said Prabowo via the Instastory feature on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
In a separate press release, the Indonesian Government Communication Bureau stated that Prabowo appreciates the dedication of the soldiers. According to the Bureau, Prabowo sees them as individuals with dedication and bravery in maintaining world peace, as well as bringing Indonesia's good name to the international arena.
