TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Godzilla returns to terrorize Japan as "Godzilla Minus Zero" unveils a new trailer. The film is a sequel to "Godzilla Minus One," directed by Takashi Yamazaki.

According to Deadline on Wednesday, the trailer, released on Tuesday, September 8, shows that Godzilla is not completely destroyed after the events of the previous film. The monster reappears as Japan is recovering from the devastation of World War II.

"Godzilla Minus Zero" is set in 1949, two years after the events of "Godzilla Minus One." The story follows the Shikishima family as they face a new threat that emerges as society begins to rebuild its post-war life.

The trailer also shows the kaiju (giant monster) eradication operation and a number of returning characters. Ryunosuke Kamiki reprises his role as Koichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe plays Noriko Oishi.

Several new cast members join the cast, including Min Tanaka as biologist Kanji Murakami, Masami Nagasawa as weather forecaster Makoto Aoyama, and Jun Kunimura as Dr. Ogata.

The film is again directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who also tackled the writing and visual effects. "Godzilla Minus Zero" is the first Japanese film produced for the IMAX format.

"Godzilla Minus Zero" is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on November 3, 2026. It will then have a North American release starting November 6, 2026.

The film is also scheduled to have its world premiere as part of the New York Film Festival on September 26, 2026.

"Godzilla Minus Zero" follows the success of the 2023 Godzilla film, which grossed nearly US$114 million at the global box office and won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 2024.

The latest trailer also hints that "Godzilla Minus Zero" will conclude the series. The line "There is no third time. Everything ends here" appears as one of the key points in the trailer.
