TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Oasis is set to become one of the highest-grossing bands in British music history after a recent report predicted that their reunion tour would generate over £1 billion, or nearly Rp21 trillion.
According to The Guardian, based on a survey by Wonderwallets, it is estimated that fans will spend a total of £1.06 billion on Oasis concerts, based on just 17 concert dates in the UK alone.
Barclays notes that this staggering figure includes total spending from 1.4 million attendees at the Oasis Live '25 concerts, encompassing ticket purchases, accommodation, food, drinks, clothing, and merchandise.
On average, each person is expected to spend around £766 (approximately Rp15 million) to watch Liam and Noel Gallagher perform together again after a 15-year hiatus.
This makes the Oasis reunion tour the largest and most expensive concert series in the history of the UK music industry, even surpassing Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, which was previously estimated to generate £997 million.
Not only are the ticket prices astronomical—which even sparked controversy over the dynamic pricing system—but other expenses like accommodation and lifestyle needs of the audience also contribute to the total figure.
According to The Independent UK, attendees are expected to spend an average of £108 on accommodation, £70.50 on transportation, and £73.70 on new clothing to attend the Oasis concert. Official band merchandise is also expected to be a top priority, with average spending reaching nearly £60 per person.
Additionally, food and beverage consumption before the concert will add approximately £75 per person to expenses, with a single glass of beer at large stadiums like Wembley or Heaton Park costing up to £8.
Interestingly, around 30 percent of surveyed fans admitted they would dress in 1990s-style attire to relive the atmosphere of Oasis' heyday. Classic fashion items like baggy pants, tracksuit jackets, and classic sneakers will flood the concert area. Even 14 percent of fans said they would cut their hair like Liam and Noel Gallagher to achieve an authentic look.
However, behind this excitement, there are complaints about the surge in ticket prices due to dynamic pricing systems, causing some fans to pay over £350 for tickets that normally cost £150.
The situation is currently under investigation by the UK competition authority. Nevertheless, the survey shows that six out of ten attendees believe the high ticket prices are still worth it for the rare experience of seeing Liam and Noel reunite on stage. Twenty-four percent even regret not purchasing more expensive tickets.
The fact that Oasis surpassed Taylor Swift in terms of concert revenue projections reflects the band's significant influence on the music and popular culture scene in the UK.
Barclays noted that this phenomenon aligns with the experience economy trend, where people prioritize experiences and memories over material possessions.
Most fans also view purchasing concert tickets as a special gift or even a sentimental decision, as Oasis plays a significant role in their lives. 16 percent of them bought tickets as gifts for loved ones, while 30 percent described it as a sentimental purchase.
