TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - More than 250 former intelligence officials of the Israeli Mossad released a new petition on Sunday night, April 13, 2025. They called for an immediate end to the Gaza war to facilitate the release of all hostages, according to the Israeli media.
The petition has added to the growing public dissent among the Israeli security establishment. Since Thursday, at least six petitions have been signed by reserve soldiers, retired officers, and veterans from various branches of the Israeli military.
"The letter, initiated by former senior Mossad officer GailShorsh, bears the signatures of three former Mossad chiefs – DannyYatom, EphraimHalevy and TamirPardo – as well as dozens of department heads and deputy department heads within the agency," according to the Yedioth Ahronoth daily, as quoted from Anadolu.
Earlier on Sunday, about 200 active military reservist doctors also signed a petition demanding an end to the war and the return of hostages held in Gaza.
Last week, over 900 reservists and retired Israeli Air Force members also signed a letter urging the return of captives in Gaza. They stated that the war in Gaza was driven more by political and personal interests than national security.
"The continuation of the war does not contribute to any of its declared goals and will lead to the deaths of the hostages, Israeli soldiers and innocent civilians," reads the letter quoted from Middle East Eye.
"As has been proven in the past, only an agreement can return hostages safely, while military pressure mainly leads to the killing of hostages and the endangerment of our soldiers," the letter added.
According to some Israeli newspapers, 10 percent of the signatories are active reservist soldiers, with the majority being volunteers, while the rest are former or retired members.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused the retired and reserve Air Force personnel of being a fringe extremist group, who are trying to destroy the Israeli society from within.
