TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that a portion of the population still lives in poverty. The country has abundant wealth, yet many people still struggle.

"We feel, understand, and comprehend that our nation is full of wealth. However, we cannot deny that a significant portion of our population has not benefited from that wealth. Some of our people still live in hardship, difficulties, and poverty," said Prabowo during his speech at the closing of the sixth National Assembly of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) at Hotel Sultan, Jakarta, on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Prabowo initially mentioned that the world is currently full of uncertainty. Wars are raging in various parts of the world. Prabowo mentioned that even Europe is worried about the possibility of a third world war using nuclear weapons.

Prabowo stated that the world is facing a humanitarian disaster. Tens of thousands of mothers, children, and elderly people are becoming victims.

This situation is occurring amid Indonesia's efforts to solve its problems. Prabowo said that the country is currently facing shortcomings. In his first speech after being sworn in as president at the People's Consultative Assembly in October 2024, Prabowo once said that we must have the courage to face and acknowledge the nation's shortcomings. He said that acknowledging these shortcomings is very difficult, and the Indonesian nation does not want to see them. "Sometimes we do not want to see these shortcomings," he said.

Prabowo referred to the shortcomings that include a significant portion of the population living in poverty and hardship despite Indonesia's great wealth potential.

According to the President, efforts to improve the welfare of the people are through politics. For Prabowo, politics means the desire to improve the lives of the people. However, the problem lies in the fact that humans are filled with desires. They want to dominate and have power for their own interests.

"Thus, the understanding of politics becomes negative. It means that politics is the desire to seize power, even by all means," he said.

Indeed, political affairs are related to power. But Prabowo mentioned that power must be sought from the people. The people must willingly, graciously, and sincerely give their power. "Only then, the recipient of power should accept and use the power as fairly and honestly as possible," he said.

For Prabowo, it is this situation that makes a nation successful. A successful nation can be realized when all its people feel sufficient and prosperous.

President Prabowo Subianto attended the peak of the sixth National Assembly of the PKS held at Hotel Sultan, Central Jakarta, on Monday, September 29, 2025. Prabowo was accompanied by the Cabinet Secretary Minister Teddy Indra Wijaya and the State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi.

PKS President Al Muzzammil Yusuf previously praised Prabowo in his opening speech at the event. "President Prabowo has just attended the 80th session of the United Nations in New York. PKS appreciates President Prabowo's active role in carrying out the constitution's mandate, actively participating in international forums to fight for Palestinian independence," Muzammil said at Hotel Sultan, Central Jakarta, on Monday.

Al Muzammil emphasized that Prabowo's stance in supporting Palestinian independence reflects the stance of PKS. He also highlighted Prabowo's commitment to consistently calling for an end to the conflict in Gaza.

In addition, Al Muzammil mentioned that Prabowo's promise to deploy 20,000 peacekeeping troops to Gaza should also be appreciated. "PKS stands united with Pak Prabowo," said Muzammil, greeted with enthusiastic applause from PKS cadres.
