TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has designated his brother, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, to lead the Indonesian delegation at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), also known as the Conference of the Parties (COP30), in Belem, Brazil, scheduled for November 6 to 21, 2025.
Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni confirmed the appointment, stating that Hashim will serve as the Special Envoy of the President for Climate Change and Energy.
"Pak Hashim will serve as the Special Envoy of the President for energy and climate change, and he will spearhead our delegation. I will accompany him. I also understood earlier that Mr. Hanif (Minister of Environment) will also be in attendance," Raja Juli told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, October 24, 2025.
Hashim's attendance is scheduled for November 6–7, 2025, where he will speak at the UNFCCC forum. Following the COP 30 activities, he is also slated to attend the United for Wildlife Global Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
"The event is organized by Prince William, the Prince of Wales. In addition, there is also a roundtable business to follow up on Presidential Regulation 110 on the carbon market," Raja Juli added.
The decision to send a strong delegation comes after President Prabowo apologized for being unable to attend COP 30 activities himself, conveying his regrets to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva during their meeting at the Merdeka Palace on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
Prabowo confirmed Indonesia's full commitment to the conference. "I earlier apologized that I might have difficulty attending COP 30 in Belem, Brazil. (But) I will send a strong delegation to attend it with our decision to support initiatives from Brazil," Prabowo stated.
He emphasized his support for Brazil as the host and leader of COP 30, particularly appreciating the initiative to provide investment funds for tropical forest preservation. Prabowo affirmed, "I conveyed that Indonesia supports Brazil, which is pioneering, and we support Brazil. Our commitment to the level of funding that Brazil will invest, then Indonesia will invest in that fund."
