TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto expresses optimism regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's leadership of the Board of Peace. According to Prabowo, Trump will realize true peace through this "shadow" UN agency.
Prabowo shared this belief during his first speech at the Board of Peace inaugural meeting in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, February 19, 2026. The event was attended by approximately 20 leaders of member countries, including Prabowo and Trump.
Prabowo stated that the Board of Peace will face obstacles and difficulties in achieving its goals. "We are very optimistic that with the leadership of President Trump, this vision of real peace will be achieved," Prabowo said during the high-level conference.
Prabowo mentioned that Indonesia has been studying Trump's proposed 20-point plan for peace in Gaza from the very beginning. He stated that Indonesia fully agrees with and is completely committed to the plan. "That is why we joined the Board of Peace; we are committed to its success," said the Chair of the Gerindra Party.
In his speech, Prabowo expressed hope for peace in Gaza and a permanent solution to the Palestinian issue. The former Minister of Defense also reaffirmed his commitment to deploying the Indonesian military to Gaza for the International Stabilization Force (ISF) mission.
Indonesia is preparing about 8,000 Indonesian Military (TNI) soldiers for deployment to the Gaza Strip through the ISF. The ISF is planned to operate under the direction of the Board of Peace formed by President Trump and approved by the United Nations Security Council through Resolution 2803 on November 17, 2025.
During the first meeting of the Board of Peace last Thursday, President Trump appreciated the presence of the attending state representatives, including President Prabowo. Trump noted that the countries joining the Board of Peace are not only contributing financially but are also willing to send personnel to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza.
Trump then highlighted Indonesia as one of the nations that will be sending troops to Gaza. "President Prabowo of Indonesia, thank you very much. It’s a big country you have," Trump said.
