TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the 2nd phase of 13 downstream projects located in various regions. Prabowo stated that these 13 projects have a value of Rp116 trillion.
The projects include five in the energy sector, five in the mineral sector, and three in the agricultural sector. The groundbreaking ceremony for these projects took place in Cilacap, Central Java, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
"With the utterance of Bismillahirahmanirahim, on this day, Wednesday, April 29, 2026, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, am very proud to launch the groundbreaking downstreaming for the second phase, covering 13 strategic downstream projects," Prabowo said, quoted from a live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
The former Minister of Defense claimed that downstreaming is the path to the revival of Indonesia. Prabowo ensured that the government will boost the number of downstream projects. "This year, we will also add maybe six more downstream projects and continuously add more. Perhaps there will be a fourth, fifth, sixth phase, InshaAllah this year too," he said.
Citing Antara, the 13 projects are spread across various regions and implemented simultaneously. One of them is the construction of gasoline refinery facilities in Cilacap, Central Java, and Dumai, Riau, managed by Pertamina.
In addition, the construction of operational tanks for oil storage facilities is planned in several regions, including Palaran in East Kalimantan, Biak in Papua, and Maumere in East Nusa Tenggara.
In the metal industry sector, downstream projects include the development of nickel-based steel manufacturing facilities in Morowali, Central Sulawesi, to carbon slab steel production facilities in Cilegon, Banten, involving Krakatau Steel.
The development of the construction sector is also part of the project, through the construction of ecosystems and asphalt production facilities in Buton, Karawang, West Java.
Meanwhile, there is also a project to convert coal into dimethyl ether (DME) in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra. Downstreaming is also carried out in the precious metal sector through the processing of copper and gold in Gresik, East Java, as well as in the plantation sector through the processing of palm oil into oleofood and biodiesel products in Sei Mangkei, North Sumatra.
Furthermore, this second phase of downstreaming also includes the processing of nutmeg commodities into oleoresin in Central Maluku, as well as the construction of an integrated coconut facility to produce MCT, flour, and activated carbon.
