TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has set a target for Indonesia to achieve complete energy self-sufficiency within the next three years.
Delivering his remarks at the 18th HIPMI National Conference in 2026, as broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Wednesday, Prabowo stated that the administration is working tirelessly to secure energy independence as a primary pillar of national development.
"We are moving toward energy self-sufficiency. We are working hard, and we estimate that we will achieve it in three years," he remarked as reported by Antara.
According to the state head, the push for energy autonomy will move in tandem with the government's industrialization program, which is a key government agenda.
He emphasized that Indonesia must move away from simply exporting raw materials, insisting instead that all strategic commodities be processed domestically to provide greater added value to the national economy.
"We will industrialize through downstreaming. We will process all our commodities and transform them into Indonesian industries," he said.
Prabowo believes that downstream processing is a strategic step to create jobs, bolster the competitiveness of national industries, and strengthen Indonesia's economic resilience amid global uncertainty.
"Many countries are currently in a state of panic, struggling to secure food. The UN has warned of a massive famine this year. Thank God, we remain strong, but we cannot turn a blind eye to these," President Prabowo emphasized.
