TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto took the time to visit his grandparents' graves during his state visit to The Hague, the Netherlands, on September 26, 2025.

Prabowo shared the moment on his Instagram account, @prabowo, on Friday, September 26, 2025. He posted two photos of himself praying at the graves of his grandfather and grandmother, Phillip Frederik Laurens Sigar and Cornelie Emilie Sigar. Both are the parents of Prabowo's mother, Dora Marie Sigar.

"During the official state visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, I took the time to pay a visit to the Oud Eik en Duinen public cemetery in Den Haag," wrote Prabowo.

Phillip Frederik Laurens Sigar and Cornelie Emilie Sigar passed away and were buried in the Netherlands in 1946.

Dora Marie Sigar was the wife of Soemitro Djojohadikoesoemo, the 3rd Minister of Research of Indonesia and the 8th Minister of Finance of Indonesia. The couple had four children: Biantiningsih Miderawati Djiwandono, Marjani Ekowati le Maistre, Prabowo Subianto, and Hashim Djojohadikusumo.

As cited from Antara, Dora came from a Dutch civil servant or ambtenaar family. Since Prabowo was born in 1951, Dora played a significant role in his upbringing and instilled Dutch cultural values. However, she also emphasized the importance of dedication to the country and education.

Dora Marie Sigar passed away on December 23, 2008, at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore, at the age of 87, and was buried in Tanah Kusir, Jakarta.

Prabowo made a bilateral visit to the Netherlands after attending the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, the United States.

Prabowo stated that he was well-received when visiting Huis ten Bosch Palace in Den Haag on September 26, 2025. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima greeted him.

Prabowo, alongside King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, discussed various important issues, including strengthening bilateral relations in several strategic areas.

Prabowo mentioned that the Dutch King agreed to return 30 thousand Indonesian artifacts taken during the colonial period.

"I think it's the good ethos of the Netherlands to foster good relations with us," said Prabowo upon his arrival at Halim Perdanakusumah Air Force Base, Jakarta, on September 27, 2025.

Prabowo also mentioned that Queen Maxima, who is a finance expert, will visit Indonesia on November 25 of this year for discussions with Indonesian finance experts.
