TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia is prepared to deploy at least 8,000 troops to Gaza, Palestine, as part of an international peacekeeping mission.

Prabowo made the statement during the first High-Level Conference of the Board of Peace in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, February 19, 2026. The meeting was attended by around 20 leaders from member countries, including U.S. President Donald Trump.

The achievement of this ceasefire is concrete. We commend it and therefore reaffirm our commitment to send a significant number of troops, up to 8,000 personnel or more if needed,” Prabowo said.

He noted that the ceasefire in Gaza had produced tangible results and emphasized Indonesia’s readiness to support efforts toward a peaceful resolution.

According to Prabowo, personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) would join peacekeeping contingents from other countries.

This ceasefire achievement is real. We are ready to deploy these troops to actively participate in the International Stabilization Force to ensure this peace succeeds,” said Prabowo, who also chairs the Gerindra Party.

Indonesia is preparing approximately 8,000 TNI personnel for deployment through the International Stabilization Force (ISF). The ISF is set to operate under the direction of the Board of Peace, an initiative launched by President Trump and endorsed by the United Nations Security Council through Resolution 2803, adopted on November 17, 2025.

In his remarks at the conference, Trump expressed appreciation for the participating countries, including Indonesia. He said member states were contributing not only financial support but also personnel to help maintain the ceasefire in Gaza.

President Prabowo of Indonesia, thank you very much. It’s a big country you have, and you do a great job,” Trump said, acknowledging Jakarta’s commitment to sending troops.

YLBHI particularly questioned the plan to deploy thousands of Indonesian troops to assist efforts described as aimed at demilitarizing Hamas in Gaza.

The organization argued that such a move could undermine Palestinian sovereignty and set a troubling precedent regarding the rights of the Palestinian people.
