TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, said President Prabowo Subianto will have a surprise for the workers during the upcoming May Day 2026 celebration.

Although he did not specify what the surprise would be, he said the president would personally deliver the surprise. "It is, however, related to online ridehailing services, ILO ratification, and labor welfare policies," Andi said at a press conference held at The Grand Mansion Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Additionally, Prabowo will also gifts labor unions with t-shirts and umbrellas, personally designed by the head of state.

Andi said Prabowo designed the gifts well before May Day, hoping that the labor unions would wear them. "The design, color, writing, were all designed by him (Prabowo). I received them last night and they will be distributed soon," Andi said.

May Day 2026 will be commemorated at the National Monument Area, from 08:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. Prabowo has been confirmed to attend the event.

The estimated number of attendees is around 400,000 people, including online motorcycle taxi drivers, with the theme "Unlimited Solidarity, No Boundaries, No Differences, and Mutual Struggle for the Welfare of Indonesian Workers."

The Head of the Government Communication Agency, Muhammad Qodari, confirmed that Prabowo will attend the May Day celebrations at the National Monument.

He then stated that the government is "not against labor, but stands with labor."
