Premier League Table: Liverpool Slip to Fifth, Man United Hold Third

3 hours ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Liverpool FC dropped out of the Premier League top four after suffering a defeat in Week 37 of the 2025/26 season, while Manchester United secured third place in the standings.

Liverpool, previously fourth with 59 points, fell to fifth after a 4-2 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday, May 16.

The victory lifted Aston Villa into fourth place with 62 points, strengthening their hopes of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

With only one match remaining, Liverpool now face the risk of missing out on Champions League qualification through the Premier League’s top-five spots.

The Reds could also slip further down the table, as sixth-placed AFC Bournemouth remain on 55 points with two games still to play. Bournemouth could overtake Liverpool if they win both remaining matches and Liverpool fail to secure victory in their final fixture.

Meanwhile, Manchester United confirmed a third-place finish after returning to winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, May 17. The result moved United to 68 points.

At the bottom of the table, the relegation battle remains intense, with Tottenham Hotspur still fighting to avoid the drop.

Spurs sit in 17th place with 38 points and are set to face Chelsea FC in Week 37 on Wednesday, May 20.

West Ham United remain in 18th place after a 3-1 defeat away to Newcastle United on Sunday. West Ham trail Tottenham by just two points, leaving the relegation fight open heading into the final week of the season.

The outcome of the remaining fixtures will determine which club survives in the Premier League next season.

Two teams have already been relegated: Burnley FC, currently 19th with 21 points, and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who sit at the bottom of the table.

Meanwhile, title contenders Arsenal FC and Manchester City have yet to play their Week 37 matches.

Arsenal are scheduled to host Burnley on Tuesday, May 19, while Manchester City will face Bournemouth on Wednesday, May 20.
