President Prabowo Arrives in Ankara, Turkiye

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Ankara, Turkiye, on Wednesday night, April 9, 2025, local time. Prabowo's visit is in the context of a state visit to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Turkey.

Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media, the Presidential Secretariat, Yusuf Permana stated that upon arrival in Ankara, President Prabowo was directly greeted by the President of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, beneath the aircraft's staircase.

"Alhamdulillah (Praise to God), tonight at 19:30 Ankara time, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo, arrived in Ankara and was directly greeted by His Excellency President Erdogan, right beneath the stairs. We witnessed him warmly shaking hands and then embracing," said Yusuf Permana in a press release on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

Yusuf stated that after the reception, President Prabowo headed to the hotel where he will be staying before going through a series of important agendas on Thursday, April 10, 2025. In the afternoon, President Prabowo is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Turkish Parliament, which will be attended by the chairperson and members of the parliament, as well as other invited guests.

"The next day, in the afternoon, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo, is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Turkish Parliament. The plan is for it to be attended by members of Parliament, and also other invited guests," said Yusuf.

Around 15:30 local time, President Prabowo is set to attend a state welcome ceremony at the Erdogan Presidential Palace. The series of events will begin with the national anthems of both countries and an inspection of the honor guard, followed by a session introducing delegations from both countries.

"After that, there will be a meeting between President Prabowo and President Erdogan, then followed by a bilateral meeting, and there will also be the signing of several MoUs that are being prepared," Yusuf explained.

Both heads of state will also hold a joint press conference after the bilateral meeting. The welcome ceremony will conclude with a state dinner.

After completing his visit to Ankara, President Prabowo is scheduled to continue his journey to Antalya to attend the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF). President Prabowo's state visit is part of a series of state visits to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. This journey will take place from April 9 to April 15, 2025.
