TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Defense announced that three more Rafale fighter jets will arrive in Indonesia by the middle of this year. These three fighter jets are the second batch of 42 Rafale jets purchased by Indonesia from Dassault Aviation, France.
Brigadier General Rico Ricardo, Head of the Ministry of Defense Information Bureau, stated that with this addition, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) now has six fighter jets. Rico stated that the remaining jets will be delivered in stages according to the contract and the technical readiness of both parties.
"This second batch will likely be three, so there will be six. And so on for the next few periods," he said when met in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
According to the plan, Rico said, the new aircraft will be received directly by President Prabowo Subianto. However, he has not yet confirmed when this event will take place. "We'll wait for the official date," Rico said.
The purchase of Rafale fighter jets is one of five new defense collaborations agreed upon between French Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly and Prabowo, who was then Minister of Defense, on Thursday, February 10, 2022.
The agreement was first realized with the delivery of three Rafale fighter jets on January 27, 2026. The arrival of the Rafale aircraft adds to the Indonesian Air Force's fighter fleet, which already includes the T-80, Hawk 100/200, Sukhoi Su-30, and F-16.
According to the defense intelligence agency Janes, the contract value is approximately US$6.5 billion, equivalent to Rp93 trillion. The AeroTimes website ranks the Rafale as the third most expensive fighter jet after the Eurofighter Typhoon, F-35B, and F-35C.
