TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 marked the final speech for Timothy Donald Cook, better known as Tim Cook, in his capacity as the CEO of Apple. During the event, Cook expressed his appreciation and pride for WWDC, a forum he credited with uniting developers and Apple’s platforms to spark limitless innovation.
"One of the greatest highlights of my time as CEO have been events like this, sharing powerful new tools with all of you and what you create with them has been a constant reminder that imagination has no limits," Cook said during his keynote at the annual conference, as cited in a MacRumors report on Monday, June 8, 2026.
He emphasized his belief that WWDC, which runs this year from June 8 to 12, serves as a vital space for creators to learn and master the latest technological breakthroughs. "I truly believe the best is still ahead," Cook added.
Cook succeeded Steve Jobs as CEO in 2011 and is scheduled to officially step down on September 1. He will be succeeded by John Ternus, who previously served as Apple’s vice president of hardware engineering. Following the transition, Cook will remain a fixture at Apple, transitioning into the role of executive chair of the company's board of directors.
Reflecting on his journey, Cook described serving as Apple’s CEO as the greatest honor of his life. He expressed a wholehearted love for the company and gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside such a brilliant team. The handover to Ternus in early September is expected to herald a period of significant continued advancement for the tech giant.
As per tradition, WWDC 2026 provided a software preview of iOS 20, alongside updates for the Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. A primary focal point of the showcase was the evolution of Apple Intelligence.
Apple noted that its latest AI software is now deeply integrated across its product line, including the digital assistant Siri on both the iPhone and Vision Pro. Specifically, Siri has received an AI reinforcement that Apple claims makes the assistant smarter, more personal, and capable of a much deeper understanding of user needs.
