TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two Malaysian peacekeepers from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were lightly injured in a strike in southern Lebanon on Thursday, June 11, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said.
"This morning, a strike impacted near a UNIFIL logistical convoy in the village of Haris... Two of our Malaysian peacekeeper colleagues were injured, thankfully only light injuries, and two of their vehicles were damaged," Dujarric told reporters.
The convoy was able to return to a nearby base, where the peacekeepers received treatment, the spokesperson said, adding that their condition was assessed as stable.
"UNIFIL will investigate the nature of the incident," Dujarric said.
On March 2, the Hezbollah movement launched rocket and drone attacks on Israel amid the US and Israel's war against Iran.
In response, Israel carried out massive airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in the southern suburbs of Beirut, as well as in southern and eastern Lebanon, and launched a ground operation in the south of the country.
On April 16, US-mediated talks resulted in a ceasefire agreement, although Israel continued daily attacks on dozens of settlements in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah retaliated with attacks on Israeli forces.
