TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Uzbekistan is a Central Asian tourist destination rich in stunning architecture and ancient cities. The local government recently introduced a golden visa policy that grants foreign nationals a residence permit. This policy is intended to boost the economy and tourism.

As reported by Travel and Leisure Asia, a golden visa is a special scheme launched by various countries to encourage financial investment from citizens of other countries in exchange for residency or even citizenship. Citizens of other countries who are interested must meet several predetermined requirements.

Uzbekistan Golden Visa

Uzbekistan already has several golden visa programs. This latest program will increase efforts to encourage tourism, in addition to sustainable investment and real estate channels.

In the latest decree signed by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on April 18, foreign nationals and stateless persons will receive a residence permit in Uzbekistan for five years. In addition, they will also receive a reward of USD 250,000 or around Rp4.2 billion and USD 150,000 or around Rp2.5 billion for each family member, be it spouse, child, and parent, as reported by Visa Guide.

With the new program coming into effect from June 1, 2025, Uzbekistan is a destination not only for tourists but also for international residents, digital nomads, retirees and global investors seeking new opportunities in residency-by-investment (RBI) options. For travelers, this opportunity can transform short-term experiences into long-term ones. From exploring Uzbekistan, as a starting point in Central Asia to the Middle East, or even Eurasia more broadly.

Uzbekistan's tourist attractions

Uzbekistan is the largest tourist destination in Central Asia, offering experiences along the Silk Road. Rich in culture and history, the country is also vibrant with bazaars, arts and crafts, sustainable fashion and exciting music festivals. The best time to visit is spring and autumn, but other seasons appeal to adventure seekers and budget travelers, as quoted by Lonely Planet.

First-time visitors to Uzbekistan can visit Samarkand’s historic Registan Square. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the square features three striking madrassas – Ulugbek, Sherdor and Tilla-Kori – which together served as a university for Islamic scholars.

Since the Timurid era, it has been a place where people met, important decisions were announced and crucial events in Uzbekistan’s history took place. In addition to Registan Square, other historical attractions in Samarkand include the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, the Shah-i-Zinda Mausoleum, the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum and the Ulugbek Observatory.

Another interesting city to visit is Bukhara, the UNESCO-protected old city. There are many must-see places in Bukhara. Be sure to make time to visit the Ark, the former residence of the Emir of Bukhara, the striking Mir-i-Arab madrassas, Nadir Divanbegi and Abdul Aziz Khan, the Kalon Tower and the inspiring summer palace of Sitorai Mohi Hosa.
