TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Real Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Sevilla FC in Week 37 of the 2025/26 La Liga season at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Sunday, May 18.
Los Blancos secured the victory thanks to a lone first-half goal from Vinicius Junior early in the match.
The result keeps Real Madrid in second place in the La Liga standings with 83 points, while Sevilla remain 13th with 43 points.
In the final matchweek of the season, Real Madrid will host Athletic Bilbao, while Sevilla travel to face Celta Vigo.
Kylian Mbappe was once again named in the starting lineup. Although the French forward failed to score despite creating several dangerous chances in the first half, his movement in the 14th minute proved decisive for Madrid’s winner.
The goal began with a precise pass from Brahim Diaz. Mbappe controlled the ball with his chest inside the penalty area before being pressured by Sevilla defender Jose Carmona.
The loose ball fell kindly to Vinicius, who fired a clinical shot past Sevilla goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos to give Madrid a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The second half was played at a higher intensity, with Sevilla pushing aggressively for an equalizer. However, Madrid’s defense, led by Dean Huijsen, stood firm alongside several crucial saves from goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Mbappe also drew attention during a counterattack when he opted to shoot instead of passing to an unmarked Vinicius, allowing defender Kike Salas to recover possession.
Sevilla striker Akor Adams continued to threaten Madrid’s defense throughout the second half, but the home side struggled to find a breakthrough.
Madrid nearly doubled their advantage through Franco Mastantuono after another setup from Vinicius, but his effort struck the post.
Mbappe thought he had added a second goal in the 73rd minute after receiving a pass from Jude Bellingham, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside by referee Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez.
Sevilla came close to leveling in the closing minutes, but Courtois produced a crucial save to deny a header from Kike Salas, preserving Madrid’s 1-0 victory until the final whistle.
