TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Argentina captain Lionel Messi has reclaimed the lead in the race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot, overtaking France forward Kylian Mbappé after taking his tournament tally to eight goals.
According to the latest top scorers list published on FIFA's official website, Messi moved to the top of the standings following Argentina's Round of 16 victory over Egypt.
The 39-year-old scored once and provided an assist as La Albiceleste secured a 3-2 win to book a place in the quarterfinals. The performance lifted Messi's total to eight goals and one assist, putting him ahead of Mbappé in the race for the tournament's top scorer award.
Mbappé, Haaland Remain Close Behind
Mbappé sits second with seven goals and two assists, maintaining a narrow advantage over Norway striker Erling Haaland, who has also scored seven goals but has yet to register an assist during the tournament.
England captain Harry Kane occupies fourth place with six goals and one assist, keeping himself firmly in contention as the knockout stage progresses.
Several Players Tied on Four Goals
A group of six players share fifth through 10th place with four goals each. They are Ousmane Dembélé of France, Ismaïla Sarr of Senegal, Mikel Oyarzabal of Spain, Julián Quiñones of Mexico, Jude Bellingham of England, and Vinícius Júnior of Brazil.
