TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said the government is targeting to provide assistance from the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) for 4,000 students next year. He aims to give more opportunities for students to study at top universities around the world.

"The goal is to create a generation that is intelligent, innovative, and productive," Prabowo said in his introductory speech on the 2026 State Budget Bill and Financial Notes at the parliament complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Friday, August 15, 2025.

Prabowo, who also serves as Chairman of the Gerindra Party, stressed that Indonesia must catch up in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. He said the assistance is intended to improve the quality of education.

For him, education is the most powerful tool to produce globally competitive human resources and to eradicate poverty. He affirmed the government’s commitment to maintain the education budget allocation at 20 percent of the State Budget, which amounts to Rp757.8 trillion in 2026, and called for accurate targeting of the budget.

The government will use the funds to improve teacher quality, strengthen vocational education, and align the curriculum with workforce needs.

To support equal access to education, Prabowo plans to provide scholarships under the Smart Indonesia Program for 21.1 million students and the Smart Indonesia College Card for 1.2 million students.

He also allocated Rp150.1 trillion to upgrade school and campus facilities and Rp178.7 trillion for teacher salaries, capacity building, and professional development.

"Professional allowances for teachers, both non-civil servants and civil servants in the regions, are also adequately prepared," he said.

Prabowo delivered this statement during his state address at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly.

Earlier in the morning, at 09:00 AM, he presented his first speech at the session, reviewing the government’s performance over 300 days since his inauguration in October 2024. In the afternoon, around 02:30 PM, he delivered his second speech before the House of Representatives, introducing the 2026 State Budget Draft.
