TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the dry season has covered about 96 percent of West Java, with central parts of the province facing an increased risk of meteorological drought from July 1–10, 2026.
Areas placed on drought alert include the Greater Bandung region, covering Bandung City, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, and Cimahi City. Other affected areas include Cianjur, Cirebon Regency, Garut, Indramayu, Karawang, Bekasi City, Majalengka, Purwakarta, Subang, and Sumedang. In Cirebon’s Losari area, rainfall has been absent for more than one month, indicating a prolonged dry spell.
BMKG climatologist Asri Rachmawati said the latest global climate analysis shows El Niño conditions contributing to reduced rainfall potential in parts of Indonesia, including West Java.
“Generally, rainfall in West Java tends to decrease,” she said in a written statement on Monday, July 6, 2026. However, she noted that localized light to moderate rain may still occur, particularly in the afternoon and evening in some areas.
BMKG added that several atmospheric factors over the next week may still support limited moisture supply and local cloud formation. These include relatively warm sea surface temperatures around Indonesian waters and varying levels of atmospheric instability from weak to strong.
On Monday, July 6, 2026, the potential for moderate rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds is expected to remain localized and brief, particularly in Bogor Regency. Overall, weather conditions in the morning to early afternoon are forecast to be mostly clear to partly cloudy.
By late afternoon, light rain may occur in parts of Bogor Regency, Sukabumi Regency, Cianjur, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, and Garut.
Between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB), conditions are expected to range from partly cloudy to overcast, with a chance of light rain in parts of Bekasi Regency and City, Bogor Regency and City, Depok City, Sukabumi Regency, Cianjur, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, Cimahi City, and Garut.
