TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast widespread rainfall across Jakarta on Saturday, December 13, 2025, with several areas expected to see heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
According to BMKG, moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity are likely in South Jakarta, East Jakarta, and Central Jakarta. Lighter rain is forecast for West Jakarta, North Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands, Jakarta’s offshore district.
Rain is also expected across the greater Jakarta metropolitan area, home to more than 30 million people. BMKG said light rainfall may occur in Bogor Regency and City, Bekasi Regency and City, Depok City, and Tangerang City.
Meanwhile, Tangerang Regency and South Tangerang City are forecast to experience moderate to heavy rain, reflecting similar conditions predicted for much of neighboring Banten province.
BMKG said the wet weather is linked in part to broader regional weather patterns affecting Southeast Asia during the peak of the Southern Hemisphere rainy season.
One contributing factor is Tropical Cyclone Bakung, which formed in the southwestern Indian Ocean near Lampung on Friday night. While the cyclone is moving away from Indonesian territory, its presence is expected to indirectly influence weather conditions across western Indonesia.
BMKG has warned that Cyclone Bakung could trigger moderate to heavy rainfall across areas stretching from Bengkulu to Banten, increasing the risk of localized flooding and traffic disruptions in urban centers.
The agency has urged residents to remain alert, particularly in flood-prone areas, and to monitor official weather updates.
