The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the weather in the entire Jakarta and its surroundings (Jabodetabek / Greater Jakarta Area) will tend to be clear and overcast throughout the series of activities for the 80th Indonesian Independence Day, on Sunday, August 17, 2025. There is a low chance of rain, although the air humidity levels are still around 64-98 percent.
Referring to BMKG's latest weather forecast, as of the writing of this article, the weather in Jabodetabek is already clear and overcast, with some areas experiencing thick overcast conditions during the early hours this morning. From 07:00 AM onwards until midday, the weather is expected to be clear, with a slight potential for overcast conditions.
The clear and overcast conditions are predicted to persist until the lowering of the Red and White flag ceremony in the afternoon, and even until 07:00 PM. The air temperature in Jabodetabek ranges from 24-30 degrees Celsius. Only the temperature in the Bogor area is slightly lower, around 20-30 degrees Celsius.
This clear and overcast weather is in contrast to the conditions last week, when regular rain showers drenched Jakarta and its surroundings. The local weather at that time was influenced by several atmospheric phenomena, such as the negative Indian Ocean Dipole Mode, indicating the flow of air masses from the Indian Ocean towards Indonesia. The spike in rainfall was also caused by the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), several cyclone embryos, as well as wind deceleration and convergence.
Mild rain regularly showered every afternoon until August 13, then eased from August 14-16, 2025. Some areas that still experienced wet weather until a few days ago were Bengkulu, East Kalimantan, and the Central Highlands of Papua.
