TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded a 4.7 magnitude earthquake in Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Saturday evening, February 21, 2026, precisely three kilometers southeast of the regency center. The epicenter was located at 6.27 degrees South Latitude – 106.51 degrees East Longitude, according to location data.
The earthquake, which occurred at 7:23 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time), originated at a depth of 160 kilometers. The epicenter was on land, so there was no tsunami potential.
The BMKG has not provided an explanation for the trigger and impact of the land earthquake as of this writing. The earthquake's official website does not list any earthquakes felt.
The most recent earthquake felt was a 5.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred at sea, 52 kilometers northwest of the Aru Islands, Maluku. The earthquake, which was felt in Dobo at an intensity of II on the MMI scale, was recorded by the BMKG as occurring on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 2:02 PM WIB. MMI scale II means the earthquake was felt only by some people in the house and caused light hanging objects to sway.
