TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The president director of Indonesian defense vehicle manufacturer PT Pindad (Persero), Sigit Puji Santosa, has expressed his readiness to fulfill President Prabowo Subianto's request for a presidential car made of glass, along with its design and specifications. "We are continuously preparing for it," said Sigit at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, May 18, 2026.
Nevertheless, Sigit has not revealed the details of the procurement of the new presidential car for President Prabowo. He has asked the public to wait. "Wait for the big day," he said.
Prabowo uses a Pindad-made presidential car with the series MV-3 Garuda Limousine. When inaugurated on October 20, 2024, Prabowo rode in a white-painted SUV during the procession from the House of Representatives (DPR) building in Senayan to the State Palace. Prabowo frequently uses the vehicle, known as Maung, as the official state vehicle.
In May 2026, President Prabowo asked Pindad to design a special car for the head of state with transparent glass so that people can see him while he is sitting or standing inside the cabin. Prabowo conveyed his idea during a speech at the inauguration of the Red-and-White Village Cooperative in East Java. "Try to design a special car for the president with glass and a seat, but visible when I'm standing," said Prabowo, as quoted from the YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat, on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
The audience laughed upon hearing President Prabowo's idea. Prabowo claimed that his idea is for the people who have been eagerly awaiting his visit to the region. "Is it allowed? I am already 75 years old. I feel sorry for the people who have been waiting for a long time, but I am passionate," he said.
