TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Central Advisory Council of the Prosperous Justice Party (MPP PKS) urged the House of Representatives (DPR) to exercise its oversight role over Indonesia's involvement in the Gaza Board of Peace (BoP) and the planned deployment of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers to the International Stabilization Force (ISF).
MPP PKS Chairman Mulyanto stated that the DPR's role in this involvement is vital. This is because government policies are vulnerable to misuse by foreign interests. Furthermore, he noted, the planned deployment of TNI soldiers is not an administrative decision, but rather a state political one.
"The Constitution and the TNI Law mandate a mechanism of checks and balances," Mulyanto said in a written statement on Monday, February 23, 2026.
With this mandate, he continued, the President cannot act alone without democratic oversight from parliament. Moreover, the policy signed by Prabowo currently concerns state sovereignty and the safety of TNI soldiers.
Furthermore, he said, the DPR also needs to oversee the use of the budget for BoP contributions. The DPR must have the courage to urge the government to be transparent. For example, regarding the amount of funding, where the budget is drawn from, and how long the budget will be used. "The public has the right to know that," he said.
Mulyanto also reminded the Indonesian constitution's preamble, which affirms Indonesia's commitment to rejecting all forms of colonialism. Therefore, all foreign policies, especially those concerning Palestine, must support independence and justice, not potentially legitimize modern colonial practices.
"The House of Representatives must also seek clarification on the legitimacy of this policy from the Palestinian side," he said.
The government plans to send Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) troops to Gaza after Indonesia joined the ISF in November of last year. The ISF was designed by the United States and approved by a UN Security Council Resolution. Indonesia is one of the first five BoP countries to send troops to Gaza.
The Civil Society Coalition for Security Sector Reform is urging Indonesia to withdraw its membership from the Board of Peace. Coalition member and Director of Democratic Judicial Reform (De Jure), Bhatara Ibnu Reza, said Israel's joining would further complicate Indonesia's foreign policy and involvement in resolving the Palestinian conflict.
"Indonesia's potential membership in the BoP will actually be used as a legitimacy to justify all Israeli actions against Palestine," he said in an official statement on Monday, February 16, 2026.
