TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Fenerbahce and AS Roma settled for a 1-1 draw on Matchday 1 of the 2026/27 Champions League group stage at Chobani Stadyumu on Thursday. The Giallorossi took the lead with a goal by Bryan Cristante, but the hosts equalized with a goal by Archie Brown.

As quoted by ANTARA, both teams earned one point, with AS Roma in 13th place and Fenerbahce in 15th, according to the official UEFA website.

Right from the start of the match, Fenerbahce played aggressively. The hosts created two chances within the first 10 minutes through Bartug Elmaz and Kerem Akturkoglu, but neither managed to score.

Roma then responded. In the 20th minute, Paulo Dybala had an opportunity to score from inside the penalty area, but Fenerbahce's goalkeeper, Ederson Moraes, saved the shot. Roma finally broke the deadlock in the 39th minute. Following a pass from Donyell Malen, Bryan Cristante fired a shot from the edge of the penalty area. The ball found the bottom far corner, giving Roma a 1-0 lead.

After falling behind, Fenerbahce struggled to pose a threat. There were no more goals before halftime, so Roma kept their 1-0 lead. At the start of the second half, Fenerbahce immediately found an equalizer. Just three minutes in, Brown scored against Roma after receiving an assist from Mason Greenwood, bringing the score to 1-1.

Roma was awarded a penalty kick in the 68th minute after Dybala was fouled by Akturkoglu. However, referee Jesus Gil reversed his decision after it was determined that the foul occurred right on the edge of the penalty area.

Roma then came under pressure from Fenerbahce again. In the 72nd minute, Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar made a brilliant save to deny Oguz Aydin. Svilar blocked Aydin's shot, which first hit Devyne Rensch.

Both teams continued to push for a winning goal during the remainder of the match. However, no further goals were scored before the final whistle blew. As a result, Fenerbahce and AS Roma had to settle for a tie in their 2026/27 Champions League opener.
